CMC (Congregation of Mother of Carmel) sisters had started the institute for mentally retarded students. They were deeply affected by the plight of the parents raising mentally retarded children. As a result of this the community had decided to start a school for the rehabilitation of these children. For this purpose, CMC Management formed Sneha Sadan Complex Charitable Society. Registered under the 12 A of Travancore Cochin Charitable Societies 1985 with Reg No. ER 458/94 as on 20-07-1994.The construction of the school was initiated with the help of kind hearted society and the CMC community. It is non-profit organisation. There are different institutes that function under it. These are Sneha Sadan Special School for Differently Abled Children, Sneha Sadan Teachers Training College for Special Education – D Ed. & B Ed., Two Separate boarding for Mentally Challenged Students – (Joe Nivas Rehabilitation Centre for Boys, Besleham & Karunalayam Rehabilitation Centre for Girls, Manjapra) and Sneha Vocational Rehabilitation Training Centre for Differently Abled.
